Where there’s smoke, there’s fire

Smoking rates have fallen to the lowest on record, Public Health England has revealed. 16.9% of adults in England smoke, down from 19.3% in 2012. The reduction is thought to be partly because of new technology – the availability of e-cigarettes to help people quit.

Aside from the direct health impact, smoking is also a major cause of house fires, so most insurers want to know if there are smokers living in your property when they provide a quote for insurance. The increase in price can be significant – another reason for smokers to quit.
