Most home insurance policies – though not all – automatically increase the level of cover for contents during the run up to Christmas, so that gifts are covered. It is worth checking your home insurance policy to see if this is the case and the level of increased cover.
If you are lucky enough to be given some expensive presents for Christmas, then you may need to add these to your home insurance schedule so they are covered by your existing policy, particularly valuables like jewellery or a watch – and decide whether you want them to be covered outside of your home.
Though it may not be in the spirit of the season, you may need to keep (or ask for) the receipt for the gift – so you can prove the value of the item when you register it, or if you ever need to make a claim for it.
