We have been asking some of PolicyCastle’s users what risks they are most concerned about when they buy home insurance.
Depending on geographic location, their big causes for concern are damage from weather – flooding or storms, and theft. However according to the Association of British Insurers’ statistics, the biggest causes of claims are from the escape of water inside the home – such as burst pipes or leaking boilers – which represented 26% of claims by total value. This sort of damage is something we can all take action to avoid, so it may be worthwhile installing insulation around exposed pipes, and checking when your boiler was last serviced.
Claims as a result of weather were the second largest category, at 20%, followed by fire with 16% and theft representing 13%.
